(March 15, 2016 – New York, NY) The Original LGBT Expo returned again for its 23rd year to the Jacob Javits Convention Center this past weekend and posted growth on all fronts. With thousands of attendees and hundreds of sponsors and exhibitors, the positive praise being showered on the longest-running LGBT convention in the world is nothing short of overwhelming.
“We’re very happy with the turnout this weekend,” said Jay Handy, Director of Life Out Loud Events, producers of the Original LGBT Expo. “This being the second year since we took over production from the former owners, we feel like we have a firm grasp on the event and look forward to continuing to grow and expand this decades-old event.”
The weekend kicked off in style on Friday night with an exclusive meet and greet/networking event at New York hotspot, Sky Room. The party featured many of the expo’s top exhibitors and sponsors discussing business and community issues, and matched up companies looking to expand their reach.
When the doors opened to the public on Saturday, until the last smiling face left the event on Sunday evening, the reviews from attendees and the exhibitors were overwhelmingly positive. Attendees enjoyed over 100,000 square feet of exhibits from over 300 participating companies, over 40 musical and dance acts on the entertainment stage, a packed schedule of engaging seminars, screenings in the show’s Film Showcase, and much more.
The Original LGBT Expo’s Entertainment Stage featured a cavalcade of incredible performances all weekend long. Whether it was a wedding fashion show hosted by “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway’s” Donnie Brown, or engaging acts straight from the Great White Way, highlighted by a show-stopping performance from “American Idol” and “Rock of Ages” superstar Constatine Maroulis, the crowd was on its feet and smiling ear to ear for the two-day event.
On the exhibition floor, attendees flocked to the various “pavilions” available. Whether it was couples looking to take their love to the next level in the Wedding Pavilion, learning about incredible destinations around the world or taking a virtual tour of an MSC Cruise ship at the Silvercar.com Travel Pavilion, or being educated at the Non-Profit Pavilion, products and services catering to the LGBT community were highlighted all around the massive space. A new edition to this year’s show, the Family Pavilion, was also a hit with young and old alike, as was Foresters Financial’s exhibit aimed at helping those from all walks of life secure their futures.
The show’s pilot program, #HireLGBT, was another rousing success. The #HireLGBT initiative was joined by many of the companies exhibiting at the event. Sponsored by Foresters Financial (http://forestersfinancial.com), the program connected those seeking to further their careers, from entry-level to senior management, with potential employers.
“We will be sending out both exhibitor/sponsor and attendee surveys over the next week in hopes of gaining additional insight on how to make our event even more successful,” added Handy. “We are constantly working on better servicing the LGBT Community and look forward to expanding the event for many years to come.”
